Membership
Membership dues are the primary way that synagogues pay their bills. It is not required to be a member to attend services, or most social events. While Adat Yisrael reserves the right to have members-only activities, and while there will be a members-only section of our website with private discussion and learning groups, the main reason to become a member is NOT to get member perks. Membership is a commitment to sustaining the synagogue community.
Our Current Financial Picture
Adat Yisrael does not currently have a building, nor are we starting a building fund at this time. We have no rabbi, and no paid staff. Our current expenses include insurance, event rental, web-hosting, Hebrew word processing software, and printing. We have a handful of Founding and Sustaining memberships to get our congregation started.
We do not have a Torah. While we can read from a Tanakh, a synagogue needs a Torah more than it needs a rabbi or a building. After a couple months of gathering membership dues we will look at our funds and form a growth committee to help guide our investment in ourselves.
Our immediate priority is gathering what has been a loose but warm Jewish social community into an active and caring synagogue.
Coeur D'Alene and Kootenai County will continue to grow. Jews will continue to move here. We want them to find us quickly. Adat Yisrael WILL have a building when the time is right. We WILL have a rabbi when we find the right rabbi for us. We will be engaged with our Christian friends and local pastors in our shared concern that the population growth in North Idaho doesn't change the wonderful patriotic, individualistic, and kind culture that we have here.
